L. is currently carried in Ace Hotels in the USA, and should be taken up by other hotels worldwide. Why does this matter? L. sells safe, natural period products and condoms online – but also, for every item bought, one is donated to a member of its network of 2,800 female entrepreneurs worldwide. It aims to donate 50 million health products to girls in developing countries in 2017 alone. L. products are currently available online and delivered in the USA with plans to expand abroad.

Ethical personal care products appeal to women who don’t want to use harmful chemicals, and L. does not use chlorine or synthetic materials in its pad and tampons. They have been developed by a female team in the US and currently are only sold there, but the effect of them is already being felt worldwide. Next time you stay at a hotel, tell them about L. and ask them if they can start selling these products, instead of other toxic, unethical varieties.

L. was set up by photojournalist Talia Frenkel, who travelled the world documenting humanitarian crisis as part of her work for the United Nations and Red Cross, and was deeply moved by the effect of HIV/AIDS on young girls. She saw that the lack of available sanitary pads and condoms in developing countries was leading to girls missing school, teen pregnancies and death from HIV/AIDS – which is why she established her project. She believes that personal care products should leave you happy and healthy, with karma on your side.
