“In Under the Surface, a special Guardian film, the award-winning writer and environmental campaigner Naomi Klein travels to the Great Barrier Reef with her son, Toma, to see the impact of coral bleaching caused by climate change. In a personal but also universal story, Klein tells how she wants him to bear witness. ‘Just in case, amid the coral that is still alive, he can find something beautiful to connect with, something he can carry with him as he navigates life on a warmer, harsher planet than the one I grew up on. Because climate change is already here – and kids are on the frontlines’’

Naomi Klein has been writing and speaking about climate change for over a decade. She is the author of This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs The Climate (2014) and her primary focus has been on putting its ideas into action. Like her, many of us have realised that enormous stakes of this threat which will affect our safety and our ability to live well in our shared home. Yet many more do not yet feel the urgency even though the scientific community have already raised the alarm. Climate change is already affecting our world … and we must do our part to raise consciousness and urge everyone we know to step up and do their part. It must be NOW.
