Located in the Toubkal National Park and set dramatically in the High Atlas Mountains of Morocco, Kasbah du Toubkal is a mountain retreat in the village of Imlil with a 360 degree panoramic views of the Imlil Valley and North Africa's highest peak Jbel Toubkal. Kasbah du Toubkal was the summer home of a tribal leader Caid Souktani. The passion and vision of two brothers led to its restoration – Mike and Chris McHugo, an adventurer and a businessman from England who love Morocco and its people. An architect highly regarded for his sensitive designs and understanding of vernacular architecture led the restoration of Kasbah du Toubkal. Rebuilt as an authentic fortress in the traditional back-breaking way, the sustainable design is low on energy consumption with high levels of insulation and includes clusters of gardens around the central part. The stout wooden front door entrance and thick exterior wall façade leads to a rustic and charming interior decked out with Moroccan comforts and crafts. reclaimed wood clad ceilings and breathtaking views. Supporting the local community and providing an authentic and inclusive local experience is the ethos of Kasbah du Toubkal. The intention from the outset was to source locally and support the local Berber population, from the labour to construct the building and the materials needed in the construction and interior decor; the management and staff that look after the guests, the mountain guides and muleteers with mules that carry the baggage – and sometimes guests – for 15 minutes up to the hotel, the food that is served; and local charities for help the poorest families from remote villages.
