Way ahead of her time, Alice Asquith has been making stylish, sustainably-sourced active wear for women for over 15 years, inspired by a long line of creative women in her family who all designed their own clothes. Her collections use bamboo and organic cotton that avoid the use of fertilizers and chemicals and are Oeko-Tex certified, which means they have a low carbon footprint and biodegradable fibres.

Bamboo is an especially low-impact fabric which grows faster and absorbs more carbon dioxide than hardwood trees, while their cotton is GOTS certified organic, which means it’s not only ethically grown and chemical free but also responsibly manufactured. Their collections are made by a family-run factory in southern Turkey where employees enjoy a 9-5 day, paid holiday and grow their own vegetables on the terrace. The company also recycles everything it can and packages clothes so that you can do the same. As Alice says, ‘we never compromise people or the planet for profit’.

Best of the all, the clothes are superbly wearable. Both materials allow your skin to breathe naturally, wick away sweat and don’t fade, stretch or bobble, and bamboo is naturally anti-bacterial and particularly good for sensitive skin. The clothes flatter all kinds of figures and are designed to be durable, so they last much longer than high street versions and offer a subtle alternative to manmade, logo-led ranges. Plenty of the current collection is suitable for travel, but we particularly like their oversize Bamboo Scarf, their Long Harem Pants and their Zip It Sweatshirt for long journeys. Check them out.
