Ciara Guerney is the GenZ Advisor to NOW for engaging sustainability in universities since 2021 when she initiated the first student-led Engaging Sustainability Forum in collaboration with NOW at École Hôtelière de Lausanne in Switzerland. It was the first time universities across the country held a Sustainability Week which has since become an annual event.

A young, resourceful and well-traveled individual with experience working with people from a wide range of backgrounds, cultures and ages, Ciara holds a Bachelor’s Degree in International Hospitality Management. During her four years in university, she chose internship experiences and summer jobs in luxury hotels with a commitment to accountable sustainability.

I believe that, not only as a hotelier, but as an individual of this planet, it is imperative that climate consciousness and accountable action must happen. As leaders of the hospitality industry, it is a duty to advocate this shift. It is essential to amplify and give a voice to the communities that are and have been directly affected by the consequences of climate change. Their voices and knowledge is just as important as our expertise in how to make hospitality more a symbiotic relationship between communities rather than an exploitative one. The planet is getting to a point of no return, but we have the power to incite a radical turn, but it can’t be in 5 years or 10 years. It must be NOW!
